Because of our concern over the recent arrests of three Muslims in Central New York and the questioning of 150 other Muslims in connection with these arrests, and also our fears of an impending war in Iraq, the main part of our meeting was spent in the format of a Quaker meeting, in which each member who wished to do so could express feelings and concerns regarding these issues
Magda Bayoumi gave a summary and update of the arrests and questioning in the Muslim community. Nancy Riffer explained the procedure for the sharing meeting. Jeanette Powell and Sherry Chayat reminded us of the ground rules and stressed that this was to be safe and confidential sharing, not a discussion. Accordingly, no notes were taken.
