Program Development

Daryl Files introduced the program theme: “Getting to Know Each Other.” She urged us to think about a new beginning for WTB–one that holds to our mission while thinking out of the box to find new directions.

The first part of the program involved getting to know each other better. Tables of six or seven women each chosen randomly met for about 20 minutes to share their interests using a list of general questions as a guide. After 20 minutes of lively conversation, we enjoyed a refreshment break.

The second portion of the program involved envisioning ideas for upcoming WTB activities. We were asked to self-select a topic of interest by sitting one of six tables. Each table had a facilitator and recorder. The table topics were:

Collaboration: Other organizations would you like to collaborate with – facilitated by Danya Wellmon and Daryl Files

Visits to faith communities: Faith traditions you would like to visit and learn about – facilitated by Patricia Pellenz and Betsy Wiggins

Interfaith conversations: How these dialogues might look and what topics would interest you – facilitated by Ann Port and Penny Hart

“Schmai” (informal dinner get-togethers): Settings for conversation, friendship, and food – facilitated by Gay Montague and Shirley Wells

Arts: Where you would like to visit or what you would like to create together in the arts in our community – facilitated by Sue Savion and Barb Bova

Mentoring and empowerment of women: Our community has many grass roots organizations already involved in mentoring women both young and mature. Do you want to start another or choose to reach out to those already engaged and collaborate with them? – facilitated by Saro Kumar and Carol Lipson

At the close of a 30-minute discussion, Daryl asked each table group to select a time to meet together prior to the next WTB meeting. Danya Wellmon encouraged us to reach out and include other women who might be interested in such activities.

Each group shared one idea it hoped to move forward. Some ideas suggested were: topic of water in the different faith traditions, visiting other faiths during their high holy days, building friendships through schmais, programs about sex trafficking, discussing the influence of religion in politics and its effect on women, presentation by a local artist who repurposes broken jewelry and metals.
