The WTB Book Club will discuss “The Lion Women of Tehran,” set in Iran from the 1950s to the 2020s during the political upheaval under the former Shah, continuing through the Islamic Revolution.
Ironic that this book was selected long before the current U.S. conflict with Iran. Best-selling author Marjan Kamali paints the story of two young girls from different social classes who become good friends and then part ways. She traces their very different lives through the years.

Reviewer Yasi Agah, an Iranian woman, writes, “…fighting for what you believe in, and staying true to yourself are prominent throughout the protagonists’ friendship. Ellie and Homa teach each other these lessons throughout the years as they drift apart and come together. If you want a book about the power of female friendship and the ferocity of being a woman in an oppressive culture, I highly recommend this book. I loved every word and wish I could read it again for the first time.”
The discussion will be on Zoom, Monday night, April 13. Contact Barb Bova, babova<at>aol.com if you’re not on her list to get the link.
