Stories My Father Told Me

Women Transcending Boundaries held our first meeting of this season Oct. 15, at ArtRage Gallery, where we viewed Helen Zughaib’s colorful and compelling exhibit “Stories My Father Told Me.” Her artwork is on display at the White House, the World Bank, the Library of Congress, and the Arab American museum. Through her art, Ms Zughaib challenges the viewer to explore one’s perceptions of the Arab world.

Each of the 25 paintings on display depicts a story her father told about his childhood in Syria and Lebanon in the 1930s and 1940s. It was very special to be able to share our own family stories — some of trauma experienced during World War II, some of special moments and customs.

If you missed the meeting and would like to see these paintings and read the stories, Helen Zughaib’s book “Stories My Father Told Me” is available at Amazon.com. If you’d like to borrow a copy of this book, contact Barb Bova at 315 415-2797.
