Origins of Syracuse Neighborhoods

Our March 27 program at Jowonio School, ”A Brief History of Syracuse and its Neighborhoods,” looked at the diversity of the Salt City and explored the evolution of the different ethnic enclaves that began to populate our city in its earliest days. From the migrating settlers of the east coast and the Revolutionary War veterans who took plots of land in lieu of military payment, to the waves of immigrants and refugees hoping for a better opportunity, Syracuse is a combination of cultures that, together, create our unique community identity.

Gregg Tripoli, Executive Director of the Onondaga Historical Association, gave the presentation to an in-person gathering as well as on Zoom..
